Facebook started a new set of features last week called “Instant Personalization” as part of its new Open Graph Protocal.

The Open Graph protocol enables you to integrate your web pages into the social graph. It is currently designed for web pages representing profiles of real-world things — things like movies, sports teams, celebrities, and restaurants. Once your pages become objects in the graph, users can establish connections to your pages as they do with Facebook Pages. Based on the structured data you provide via the Open Graph protocol, your pages show up richly across Facebook: in user profiles, within search results and in News Feed.

Some people are not a fan of how your information is being shared to third party advertisers. But not to worry you can disable facebook’s instant personalization features. Facebook did bury this and make it hard to find out how to disable instant personalization but its easy to do, just follow these steps.

Click on “Account” in the upper-right corner of the Facebook homepage.

Select “Privacy Settings” from the drop down menu .

Choose the link “Applications and Websites”

At the bottom of this list: “Instant Personalization.” click on “Edit Settings”

From this page you may select or unselect the checkmark to turn on or off “Instant Personalization”.

You may also choose to select specific websites or applications to see your personal information (or to block them individually).

What is Tumblr?

Tumblr is described as “a blogging platform that allows users to post text, images, video, links, quotes, and audio to their tumblelog, a short-form blog. Users are able to “follow” other users and see their posts together on their dashboard. Tumblr, which is free for users, with plans to expand the audience and fine-tune the blogging platform. Tumblr lets me do a sort of stream of consciousness thing that I find totally simple.

I’ve been getting addicted to Tumblr. Tumblr helps you make that personal connection with your audience. Tumblr has drawn in features but offers a more social blog as well as unique tumblr themes. Tumblr has prided itself on being one of the most simple and easy ways to blog, and these new features only enhance that, and they should be proud – IT ROCKS. While the service is focused on shorter, microblog-type posts and for sharing found items from the Web, there are plenty of users who use Tumblr as their main platform for blogging.

Tumblr is one of the simplest ways to make your own space online and also it is a simple way to make your own portfolio. TumblrMaps is a new service that generates an XML sitemap for your Tumblr blog. An XML sitemap, when submitted to a search engine, makes it very easy for the search engine to navigate through your website and thus index your website in a better way. Tumblr.com is a great mini-blogging tool with some wonderful features for everyone, except the marketing people. If you have one or few blogs on Tumblr and intend to run a marketing campaign of your brand or service. Tumblr has made it easy to post a small range of content types. It’s much more stream of consciousness than Twitter because of the content types supported, Tumblr is better than Twitter but it’s not a replacement. Tumblr fits into this category, its simplicity is what makes it a must for all. Really, go and have a look, it blew me away at how great it was. Tumblr reminds an older site Pownce, which was my favourite years ago. Unlike Pownce, Tumblr has no tool to promote the links.

Tumblr is currently a free service, but its something I would have paid for it in a heartbeat if they offered a way for me to give them cash. If tomorrow they offered a premium plan, would I pay for it knowing the support track record? Tumblr is the easiest way to express yourself online. The form of expression on Tumblr is called a tumblelog, which (as defined by Wikipedia ) is “a variation of a blog that favors short-form, mixed-media posts.” .Tumblelogging exists to express a more ethereal identity. Tumblr also works well for people who need blogging to be simple and easy.

Tumblr links with Vimeo to host video content. While this is useful if you ether have no existing video hosting or already have a Vimeo account, it is not as good for those of us who use a different service such as YouTube . Tumblr has spark capital and union square ventures as their investors. Marco Arment, the technical lead at Tumblr is a perfect balance of technical chops, getting stuff done and doing it right. Tumblr offers a rich interface that makes posting content very easy. This free blogging system appeals to many since most people that blog don’t post long articles, but rather short snippets and blurbs of thought or things they find online.

TumblrMap automatically generates a sitemap containing all the articles published on your Tumbr blog. Users will now have the ability to submit a sitemap to Google directly from TumblrMap?s interface. Tumblr allows you a string of of media ranging links, text to videos and pictures and a lot of other tumblelog options. There’s no much fuss to deal, its always easy with Tumblr. Tumblr blogs can have SEO power too. If you install the Tumblr XML sitemap plugin and pay attention to your Post titles and keyword usage, the search engines will begin directing traffic to your Tumblr account.

Nobody knows who started Doppelganger week or what caused it to become so popular. What is the next BIG social idea going to be?

Google explains Twitter integration into Google Search Appliance.

Yahoo has already released a real-time search integration into its search engine but Google is quick to follow with the recent announcement.

Search Appliance gets real-time: Twitter feeds now available on the GSA

Real-time information is becoming an increasingly important part of searching online – both for business and consumer search users. Yesterday we announced the launch of real-time results on Google.com, and today we’re announcing that the Google Search Appliance (GSA) can show users tweets from Twitter next to their internal Search Appliance results.

Social information is important for businesses: employees searching for information needed to do their jobs benefit from real-time news too. They might be developing a new breakfast cereal, or designing a marketing plan for a clothing line, or writing strategy report for a political campaign. In all of these cases, understanding what is being said just as Twitter users are saying it can be invaluable.

Google’s focus is to provide the most relevant search results to users. In the case of the GSA, this means accessing information from multiple sources, aka universal search. To this end, we already offer a feature called Related Web Results, which allows employees to view results from Google.com alongside corporate search results.

Customers have told us that placing web results next to intranet ones often allows employees to think differently about a particular topic and approach it in new ways. By integrating enterprise search with more of the information that exists in the cloud, like tweets, employees can more easily leverage the wisdom of the crowd.

To turn the Twitter box on in GSA results, follow the instructions provided here. It should take no more than 15 minutes to get up and running. It can be enabled for only some users, all users, or set up so users can choose themselves whether they want to see the Twitter results by using a keyword trigger (like ‘twitter’). Integration info and how-tos for this feature can be found here, and happy realtime reading.

Matt Cutts as most of you know is one of the original members of Google and helped create a lot of the original architecture that the Google Search Engine survives on. He has become one of the main voices of Google. Matt Cutts explains the value of Link Building but he also for the first time explains that Link Building depends on the reputation of the site that is linking to your website or webpage. More specifically Twitter Links do carry some value when linking to your website but they do not carry any link popularity with it since the outgoing links on Twitter are no-follow. On Facebook however the links do carry value but only if the profile or fan page on Facebook is set to Public view (not Private). And then the normal link flow is in effect. If the Facebook page that is giving a link to the website you are promoting has link value or is considered popular to the search engines then you will gain from the links… I know it sounds confusing, Maybe the explanation from Matt Cutts is easier to understand… Enjoy the video
